I found out an important fact today.

I just survived doing a Kagami Biraki where my buddy Scott and I demonstrated Jiki Shinkage Ryu tono kata. If I can get some pictures , you can see some of the stuff we do.

Kagami Biraki is a New Years ceremony where offerings are made, and embu, or demostrastions are done, all ending with a lot of parties, food and drinks. A ceremonial table is set up, we had Sake and mochi set out. I informed both Garrett and Samantha to not touch the things on the table. Samantha asked why, as you may have guessed any 8 year old to do. I told her “It is like church, so be respectful of it” to which SHE replied “Daddy, you dont go to church!” Aw youth! Garrett was very good through the first half, even though there was another little boy her REALLY wanted to play with. At the intermission, he ran in circles, well ALL the kids ran in circles, and some adults did too. Kigami Biraki can ,like any ceremony, be LONG and very dull for little kids.

Not X-Files but X-Box

Barbie Horse Adventures from the old X-Box is playable on the X-Box 360. And why, you may ask yourself, is a envelope pushing game like Barbie Horse Adventures being passed along to the X-Box 360. Why not! Good Lord, microsoft knows, like the big tabacco companies, you need to start them early. That is the horrible TRUTH.

TRUTH

I know it is because……….Samantha has Barbie Horse Adventures……at least its for the PC. I havent caved totally. I would never cave.

It maybe that I cant look at anything on the computer except e-mail, spider solitaire, and World of Warcraft, but there is nothing exciting on the PC horizon. Now, mind you, the balance of PC use is mostly slanted toward the WoW side; otherwise I could be out combing the web for the next BIG thing.

I still like Half Life 2, but the tunnel run style was not my idea of fun. My longest stretch of not leaving the computer was Half Life 2 (7.5 hours) and you can save the GAME! (unlike WoW), but it wasn’t fun, it was stupidity. But my uriologist loves me for it.

I have to say I may need to look at FEAR. This is Monolith’s most recent game and the hand off from No One Lives Forever 2 (which were great!) which is suppose to push the technical limits of most machines with fantastic light effects.

If you haven’t seen FEAR, here is a primer from the Red vs Blue folks. These should give you an idea of how the game is played.

Maybe I should give up this electronic life style for something more healthy, like sleep.

Peace and Barbie Grease

Hope all is well with the regulares here. Since I made such a faux pas in underestimating the readership here, I promise to to never make direct numerical references ANY MORE. I will now only use aztec inferences to assume numbers. But at least the calander will be 3.5 times more accurate.

I am hoping that the New Year will bring some peace around the world. I also hope that robot will stop stealing my luggage.

But what I am sure it is going to bring is:

The NEW HYBRID HONDA.

Yes, the old ’92 has reached the point where repairing doesnt justify the cost. But we get a flashy new car AND Maryland has made a few inticements:

H.B. 61 exempts qualified hybrid electric vehicles from motor vehicle emissions testing requirements.

Owners of hybrid cars will get discounts on parking at the 15 city-owned parking garages in Baltimore. The plan cuts between 32- and 85 dollars from the monthly fees for owners of the fuel-efficient vehicles. Baltimore will limit participation to 200 vehicles and the program will apply only to monthly, contract parking. Drivers of
the three most fuel-efficient models can apply for a decal that will let them park in designated spots in the city’s garages.

And the Feds are going to give about $2000 tax credit for the Honda. Its like having another kid, if a car could go joy riding with itself then smash itself up.

I will remember to take the camera and get pictures of the set I just built at Silver Spring Stage.

It is an abstract set, mostly platforms, well, its all platforms for the play “The Shape of Things”.

At the end of the month, Television classes are going to start up again at Montgomery Communtiy Television and I am feeling happy about that. Classes will be restructured and maybe we can generate some new interest in community television.
