I am the terror that flaps in the night…

I am the fingernail that scrapes the blackboard of your soul.

Not sure what made me think of Darkwing Duck this morning. But after looking at some of the entry in Wikipedia I found this:

Which translates to “Danger is Calling Me!” but it is the Japanese phrase for “Lets get Dangerous!” which to me is one of the most inspired Disney cartoon lines ever.

Now you have to qualify everything (almost). When I say Disney cartoon, here I am referring to their never ending line up of serial cartoons. The “House of Mouse” type or the serial spin offs of the movies are the ones I am thinking about. I cannot include full length movies because each one (usually) has a single moment.

Every house deserves a series that goes beyond just child like television “I need something to not do my homework” cartoon. The two that pop to mind are “Darkwing Duck” and “The Animaniacs”. Maybe it is more because these are the more Quotable cartoons around. Quotes like:

The Brain: Pinky, are you pondering what I’m pondering?
Pinky: I think so, Brain, but this time, you put the trousers on the chimp.

Darkwing Duck: I am the terror that flaps in the night, I am the low ratings that cancel your program.

The Brain: Are you pondering what I’m pondering?
Pinky: I think so, Brain, but me and Pippi Longstocking… I mean, what would the children look like?

Darkwing Duck: I am the terror that flaps in the night, I am the ten dollar service charge on all returned checks.

Yakko Warner: There you go, that’s our solar system.
Wakko Warner: You forgot Uranus.
Yakko Warner: [blowing a kiss to the audience] Good NIGHT, everybody.

Megavolt: I’ll finally be rid of them MEDDLING KIDS AND THEIR NOSY DOG.”
[Regaining his composure]
Megavolt: Whoops. Wrong cartoon.

Dot: [singing] The stockings were hung so our names clearly showed
Wakko: [singing] In the hopes that old Santa would leave a big load.
Yakko: [blows a kiss to the audience] Good NIGHT, everybody.

I must admit that IMDB has some incredibly long quote pages on these 2 shows. And also singling out “Pinky and the Brain” from the animaniacs as my favorite serial cartoon ever. I will probably find it hard to work with Genetically modified mice without laughing a lot for a week or so.

On to other things. Today was start of the second week of bicycle commuting to work. No pains in the leg, arse or back. Pride still stings but little I can do about that.

I meant to post this last week.

I do not preach about smoking but it does make a statement that it took this long for NIH to become smoke free. Mind you I took this picture after waiting for 4 people to come out of the pedestrian gate to come outside the gate so they could smoke (viz why I took the picture too). OK I know 2 of the people were willing to let me get my bike through, but I was letting my legs enjoy the down time.

To each their own.

[blows a kiss to the audience] Good NIGHT, everybody.

5 days

Not that I am superstitious (knock, knock) but I have gotten back in the saddle literally.

5 days, 13 miles a day, and really only once did I feel like I left a major circulatory organ anywhere by the roadside. Luckily I had Stac to help extract myself from the gear.

Let’s see what the weekend off will do.

peace a gear grease
